Ivan Hernandez joined COPE Health Solutions in October 2019 as a Program Manager for the Health Scholar program at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. His focus is on the professional development of the program’s student leadership and the overall management of the Health Scholar program.

Prior to joining COPE Health Solutions, Mr. Hernandez served as a Community Dental Home Coordinator for the Oral Health Unit at AltaMed Health Services Corp. In this role, he increased parent’s awareness in education about anticipatory guidance, oral disease and improve oral health outcomes for children 0-5 and perinatal patients using motivational interviewing. During his employment at AltaMed Health Services Corp., Mr. Hernandez also assumed roles in Health Education, Project Management, and Obesity Prevention focusing on addressing and minimizing disparities in health care access and outcomes by educating, navigating, and providing superior quality preventive services in underserved communities in Southern California.

Concurrently, Mr. Hernandez participated in the Health Scholar program at St Joseph Hospital of Orange for two and a half years. He joined the student Leadership Team as a Department Coordinator and quickly grew to Director of Departmental Operations, where he was responsible for managing and expanding 16 hospital departments and supervised over 30 Leadership Team members. In this role, he assisted with implementation of new hospital departments and maintaining a balanced-scorecard metric.

Mr. Hernandez’s inspiration to pursue a career in health care stems from his experiences working with marginalized communities. He aims to alleviate the burden of disease among underserved populations and overcome barriers to navigating the health care system.

Mr. Hernandez received his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Bachelor of Arts in Computational Mathematics from University of California, Santa Cruz. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Mr. Hernandez served as a Teaching Assistant for various STEM courses. In this role, Mr. Hernandez gained experience supporting students academically and professionally. Mr. Hernandez aspires to bring positive transformation to population health by mentoring the next generation of health care professionals.
